My high school is the best! So many great activities for student and no one is ever left out. The administration and staff are so caring, always willing to do anything to make sure their students succeed. The clubs are amazing and allows each student to be vary involved. We have a great student body government which I recommend anyone to join. As far as diversity it is pretty good for where the location of the school is.
I graduated from NSBHS in 2018 and I hated being there. As a Muslim woman of color, I was disrespected on the daily by students and teachers. The school itself was always very filthy and smelly. The students and teachers were filthy with racism, islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, misogyny, the list is endless. There was NO conversation about how to speak to people who are different to you. The meaning of human decency, racism, or homophobia was just not discussed as it should have been. The school is definitely going to be a better experience for white students, best for white male students, until the staff and admin begin to care about their treatment of minority students.
Overall, I had a great four year education experience at New Smyrna Beach High School. The administration is all motivated and eager to provide the best learning environment for the students. In my years, I have created many bonds with teachers, all who have made my learning experience diverse and informational. Every event including clubs, meetings, and sports games are always organized. The security is very good and I always feel safe when I am on campus or off campus at school functions. One thing I would alter would be more hands-on learning and field trips that pertain to specific career paths.
