We've been a New City family for over 5 years. Both of my daughters love New City for several reasons, but it is the special relationships that they have with their teachers, the school staff, and their friends that make the biggest difference. Teachers at New City go above and beyond to support the individual needs of each student. The school's culture and curriculum do an amazing job of fostering community and academically/socially/emotionally preparing students for life. Students are taught to care for others, use their talents to make improve their community, speak up for others, be honest and fair. They are taught to value the many forms of diversity, lead with confidence, and contribute as a team player. As parents, we've learned ways to better support our girls and much more. The teachers have ALWAYS listened to our concerns, ideas and input. New City students thrive, and we simply LOVE our school!
New City School is one of those schools that seem too good to be true. From my very first encounter with New City, I have not ceased to be impressed! Everyone is so welcoming, nurturing, and caring. One of the things I love most about New City is that they encourage every child to be themselves and to be their best selves! They teach them how to be great members of the community and care for others. The school is very diverse which is something that was important to my husband and I. Prior to attending New City, my 5 year old expressed that she felt she could not be herself at her previous school. She felt like an outsider. She has verbalized multiple times that she feels at home at New City, she feels the freedom to be her authentic self, she feels accepted! I can't thank New City enough for cultivating an environment that promotes respect, authenticity, and the space to be creative in their own way. I could write pages about New City, but I encourage you to see for yourself!
New City is the school I wish I had a chance to attend as a child. We have multiple kids attend New City; they are all very different. I have been so pleased to see the way the school and teachers have worked to understand how my children learn best and how to help them be their best versions of themselves.
New City often is thought of for its emphasis on social justice and diversity, but it's also academically rigorous. New City grads leave the school prepared to succeed in whatever secondary schools they choose.
I think the one of the best endorsements I've ever heard of NCS came from another NCS parent in my child's grade. He's a teacher at Burroughs and when it came time to choose a school for his child, he said he didn't even visit any of the schools. He looked around at all of his students (all very bright and driven) and said, who of these kids are the most well rounded and do I enjoy talking to-- and they were overwhelmingly New City grads. I'm thankful for our time at NCS.
