It was good when I first started here, like really, really good. Now, as a graduating senior, I have seen the fall of Neuse Charter. The only good high school teachers are leaving. Soon enough, Neuse Charter will just be a shuttle service to and from JCC for high school. Then, the terrible teachers they replace the good teacher with will be good enough for those deemed not smart enough to go to JCC. Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, administration ignored the words of the SGA and student body concerning how to hold graduation. Instead of utilizing the small class size of 43, administration went with their first idea that other schools, with large classes, went with if they even had a graduation before July. That, to me, shows just how lazy the new administration has become. But, there is hope for this school. If they can retain the few teachers they have left that actually love their job, maybe Neuse can prevail. But I doubt they can retain the good teachers, they deserve more.

It is a school like no other when it comes to academics. But there is almost no diversity, very little motivation, very little reason to stay if you desire a school with good athletics, and very limited activities. The field trips are non-existent, uncreative, barely funded, and overall unsatisfying. While one grade may be allowed to go to the mountains or ziplining, the seniors and juniors are only given the opportunity to go to a baseball game. The enthusiasm of this school is absolutely dead in every way possible. There are some students that do not even realize that we have a wrestling team or a band. No one supports each other, there is no school spirit, no one goes to prom, no one goes to homecoming, all of our teams are not teams in the slightest, they are all just a ragtag group of goofballs who just sit around like it's a social hour. But in spite of all things that make a normal high school, we excel in preparing our students for college, which is a good thing.
The school was very small and I enjoyed the environment. You really get to know the people around you and form teacher relationships. The teachers are really here to help you. I struggled in many of my recent math classes. My math teacher would stay after school and tutor me and would let me fix my classwork that I struggled in. I have met great friends along the way and I have formed long lasting relationships. This school has prepared me to get into college. My senior seminar will help me ease into a better transition to college. Although they do not have many clubs, they still try their best to please students. I have enjoyed the faculty and all the hard work they do for us. There are many kids on campus and the school can get dirty sometimes, but they really try their best to make the environment safe and clean. Parents are heavily involved with sports and the academics, the parents are here to help the school thrive.
