In general, Neuqua is a decent school. It's situated in an affluent area, which means that it has access to a large variety of different resources, and is able to employ very experienced teachers. The staff seems dedicated to providing a comfortable and personalized experience for students, and for the most part, this is achieved with some success. However, the most glaring flaw which holds the school back is the other, sharper end of the double-edged sword that is being a wealthier facility- it's extreme culture of overwork and competition among students. Neuqua students are expected to constantly work toward a nearly unattainable ideal of 'success'- taking ridiculous amounts of AP classes, joining clubs merely for the merit of having extracurriculars to supplement a resume, and trying to excel and stand out among a sea of their peers reaching toward a similar goal. The bar only continues to get higher as new precedents are set by overachievers, creating a discouraging environment.
I loved my time at Neuqua, because for the most part, I had excellent teachers who were excited and knowledgeable about the material they were teaching; if I ever struggled with classroom material, it was easy to meet with teachers in the morning before school and clarify. Most of my teachers were approachable and committed to their classes, and if you take AP classes, the AP teachers are excellent at challenging and supporting you when teaching the material and when reviewing for AP Exams. Neuqua is also a large school, with about 4,000 total students, so it is easy to meet a lot of new friends even if you move in to the district like I did. There are countless extracurricular opportunities, and lots of sports available as well. Overall, even though Neuqua made me work really hard, it was all in preparation for college. I will never forget my experience!
My experience at Neuqua Valley High School was wonderful, as I got to learn from amazing teachers who are intelligent and very good at what they do. The teachers and staff greatly value the students' education, contributing to a excellent and memorable high school experience. Furthermore, the classes and resources available to the students are excellent, and no student is left behind, as there are several resources available for struggling students to get assistance. The activities, clubs, and sports at Neuqua are very diverse, ranging from known clubs such as DECA and Model UN to specific and niche clubs such as anime club. Overall, my experience at Neuqua Valley High School was very good.
