My favorite thing about Nederland High School was the faculty. I enjoyed every teacher that I encountered (even the math teachers), and it genuinely felt like every teacher genuinely wanted me to do by best. They helped me after hours, were responsive to my emails, and most of all never made me feel stupid. Accepting my questions with open minds, they wanted to make sure I understood the material presented to me. Something I would like, though, is actual action taken against students engaging in bullying or otherwise disrespectful behavior. It felt almost lenient, the punishment they may have received.
The teachers are great (in person)and devote their time to their students but I feel like the district doesn't prepare students enough for college. Many other schools offer many dual enrollment classes, community services that help your resume, programs/classes that get you ready for any collage that you plan on going to, encourage and inform students on things to do or sign up for to help them be ready. But I feel like this school only really focuses on Lamar University, which is the town's college, so they just don't give you enough options if you aren't planning on going to Lamar.
Nederland is a great city to raise a new family of your own. It has great schools such as Nederland High School, that will guide your children in the right direction. NHS offers great teachers, friendly councilors and principals, and a high quality coaches. Bringing your students to Nederland Highschool is a great decision and should be made by all that live in the surrounding areas.
