I am a parent of a student that is in the ESE (SPED) program at Naples High. He has attended since Freshman year and is graduating next month. This school has a wonderful inclusion program. Also, my sons IEP is the best written plan I’ve seen and I am an IEP translator. The teachers encouraged him to reach for the stars and he did. They also have a great career program. Special Olympics is also very involved with the students and I encourage participation.

Naples High invites people into a comforting and lovely environment. This school is highly diverse and it is nice to see that people will congregate with others who are not like them. Many student ideas are implemented in the school, such as modern music playing over the loudspeakers as we walk to class to customizing our parking spaces. The academics are enriching and most of the teachers value the success in their students. Naples High also has its faults. For example, they only include one language in the courses and has some restrictions on expressing cultural preferences. Naples High should provide more than one language to be taught. To graduate, we are required to take language classes, so there might as well be options to ensure enjoyment in taking a foreign language class. Furthermore, black students, myself included, are "dress-coded" for wearing African-patterned head-wraps. Something that is a part of your roots and culture should not be restricted, but rather, embraced.
Naples High has been a very good place for me to attend high school; however, the last two years of my high school career were through dual enrollment at FGCU. My experience at Naples high was very positive, but there are definitely some downsides to the faculty. The math department at Naples High is one of the worst collection of math teachers I've ever seen. My sophomore year in AP calculus, only one out of forty-two students passed the AP exam. Overall it was a good school, but there is some serious work that needs to be done.
