Nantucket was a great high school experience. It's a small town, most everyone knows each other. The area is beautiful and the school helps students find many ways to get in touch with that community. There is a lot of opportunity and effort given to graduating students to try and help them succeed as best as they can. The sport teams aren't amazing but the family structure each of them offers is extremely inviting and makes them great fun to try. The events and shows the music department provides are always great fun, and most of them draw audiences from the whole island over.
Looking back, I would describe my time at Nantucket High School as good. Going through high school is a difficult experience for any teen, and there's only so much the school can do to make that easier, but I feel like the people at NHS really tried to support their students. I would rate the overall learning environment positively, and I think that most of the teachers really care about the success of their students. Most teachers offer extra time to help students, have private conversations with students who are struggling, and maintain a good balance of work and play in the classroom. One criticism I have is the lack of resources for people who belong to a minority. I feel as though their aren't many ways for minorities to find a place of belonging among people they relate to.
I struggle with dyslexia and adhd - Nantucket HS provided the best support team to help me learn strategies to overcome challenges. I would have never made it through without my advisor - she got me thru high school!
