I have gone to Munster High School for all four years of high school. I'm proud to say i will be graduating from here. Munster acadamics is ahead of most other local schools even in the elementry schools. I remember transferring into the Munster School System in 3rd grade and realizes my old school was almost a grade level behind. The students already knew multipulation from 2nd grade and i have yet to learn past multiples of five. Munster provides great resources for students. They provide a club or sport for everyone to feel included. They provide an experience you will remember acadamically and non-acadamically. On a downside, i have had multiple experiences that they hired teachers that did not belong. Many teachers were fired or quit due to the high standards or the pressure from students that demand their education. Munster High School did there best to help the situations but it was always a struggle to those in the class without a learning structure.
There are some really great teachers here. Most teachers and staff are friendly and helpful. If students put in the work and are kind, they will do well here. However, as with any school, there are some bad crowds and bad teachers/staff, but with diligence you can avoid them or make it through these circumstances. There is not much racial diversity here, but the school is improving in that aspect with time. School culture/school spirit is poor in most instances, but the students can tell that the school is working very hard to try to fix that. This school is more focused on and successful in academics, music, and art than sports. The marching band, swim team, tennis team, Science Olympiad, and Speech and Debate team are favored. To a close, MHS has its flaws, but overall it is a great school that will prepare you for college.
My experience at Munster High School has been a relatively mixed one. The academics at the school are amazing, although I do wish the school offered more diverse elective classes for students to choose from. There is a lack of stability at the school, as teachers constantly come and go. As a case in point, kids in Algebra II last year had between 3 to 4 teachers throughout the year. This makes it very hard for students to actually learn. Another issue with the school is the lack of care for minority students. Many students have complained about racist incidents happening at the school, and things were not done about it. Many kids would go undisciplined for their racist and offensive activities. Overall, the school is not the worst school, but it definitely has MANY things that it needs to improve on.
