As a freshman in high school and starting school virtually, a lot of things can be confusing. However, I got straight on track with the help of seniors and teachers. They gave me the best tips that they wished they knew as a freshman, and the teachers gave us plenty of time to get adjusted to virtual school. I learned about the amazing clubs, electives, and what it means to be a Sundevil. If people have a positive attitude through Zoom, imagine when we get back on campus. To be honest, I was worried that the older kids would pick on the freshmen, but I saw how welcoming they were during the orientations. I also thought that everyone would just barely do enough to pass their class, but that all went away when I saw how motivated everyone was and trying their best to exceed expectations. I said it once and I will say it again. It's great to be a Sundevil!

I love how Mt. Carmel students are known as “the nicest people” in the Poway Unified School District according to many other schools. We have so much school spirit and nobody is ever alone. Many of the students have wonderful connections with the staff and the staff are always there to help if you need a helping hand! When you walk through the gates in the morning you our greeted by our wonderful smiley campus security. Mt. Carmel has one of the best bands in California! Our boys volleyball team also made it to CIF’s, as well as girls soccer. We’re off the hook!
Mt. Carmel has a wonderful campus with welcoming students, there is a diverse amount of clubs and sports where everyone is likely to find something they love, although there is an abundant amount of tension between the band, choir/theater, and athletics departments, that starts with the staff not being able to get along with one another. The security guards are surprising friendly, they are always welcoming students before school. The teachers are average for the most part, with a few exceptions of teachers who go above and beyond to help their students exceed. Throughout my time at Mt. Carmel I have realized the administration does not really care about the students or their well being, but are much more concerned with the school's appearance and reputation. Mt. Carmel is an above average school but the administration could be more focused on the students than on how the district views them.
