Mom here, we moved to SD in part for this school! After leaving an extremely dysfunctional school and district, I cannot say enough about MCHS. There is a culture of kindness, it is not just a saying. The kids are motivated to do well and value their education. The staff is caring and glad to be there. When was the last time you found someone happy in their job? It speaks volumes to me!

To most students, a lot of people overlook Mt. Carmel because they are attracted to academic schools like Westview or Del Norte in the Poway district. However, it is the attributes of this school that makes this place stand out. If there was an attribute that really distinguishes Mt. Carmel from any high school, it is their school spirit. I find it very enriching that the staff and admin of this institution really sell the "Sundevil Way" and the "Red Sea" through social events such as pep rallies via a energetic, young ASB. Their theater department are very passionate about their productions because they are willing to spend most of their free time committing to what they love. And it is that passion that makes us a successful school in marching band, athletics, color guard, etc.
My high school experience has been incredible so far. I have been exposed to so many new opportunities and ideas and teachers who love what they do, I have flourished in this environment. I’ve never felt more at home away from home, and I leave class with some part of me being more prepared than I had previously. Through this school, I have learned that the point of high school isn’t solely to gather new information that we potentially will use in college or careers in the future. School is made to provide experience without all the dangers that the real world possesses, and the teachers are the mediators that guide the students into developing smart habits and critical tools used frequently in life. I look forward to my experience outside of high school, because my school has prepared me for where I need to go next.
