My experience at Mount Zion high school was a very interesting one. I’ve gained many new experiences, I made many friends, and I learned many important life lessons. I like the many opportunities that were offered at my school, like community service and career pathways. Also that we are able to learn a new language and, explore our interest through clubs or sports. One thing I like to see different about my school is more students participating in school activities.
My experience overall at Mount Zion Highschool is one that I would describe to be decent, or above average to an extent. The transition from my middle school to this high school that I and many other students have made is not an easy one and I feel that the administration could have made integrating easier. From the first day that we set foot on campus, we were expected to fend for ourselves as 9th grade freshmen. The academics taught in most of my classes rated from average to poor, some of our teachers were lazy or became unmotivated to teach us when we did not understand a particular subject the first time. I feel as the teachers themselves need training to learn that not everyone moves at the same pace both in and out of the classroom on picking up new topics. However a select few of our teachers were highly motivated to keep pushing us forwards, especially our STEM and FBLA teachers. Although they were using out of date equipment, they did the best with what they were provided.
I am a student attending Mount Zion Highschool I've been going to this school for two years now but I have never went in person because of covid. Since 7th grade I was in gifted classes but when I got to mount zion highschool they put me in slow classes and I'm like what I never was in a slow reading or slow math class so why am I in these classes. My experience for 9th grade virtual was okay because I had teachers. But this year my 10th grade year it was like they did not care about the virtual students. They did not give me any teachers and I get that I'm in highschool but at the same time that's not right to leave me on my own. Yes I can watch videos and answer questions, but it's not like having a teacher to help guide you.
