Mount Vernon Christian School Reviews
Rating 3.72 out of 5 29 reviews
Mount Vernon Christian is a great school if you are straight, white, conservative, extremely into sports & sheltering your kids. There is very very little diversity, the culture there is exclusive. There aren’t many classes to choose from in comparison to public school. Many of the teachers are extremely grumpy and seem like they don’t even want to be there, which really makes it hard to enjoy learning. If you are different from the characteristics i mentioned in the first sentence, academic growth becomes more challenging as you constantly deal with homophobia, racism, sexism, and bigotry. Not all, but many students i’ve encountered make jokes and slander others to the point where it makes it extremely hard to focus on school. MVC shelters kids from reality. Otherwise, the music program, athletics and college readiness are the highlights of the school. The dual credit math programs offered are good as well.
Mount Vernon Christian School is an experience that I am grateful, and honored to have. The environment is different than anything I've ever been around, from the kindness of the students, to the openness of the teachers. In class, the teaching techniques that are used have helped me to reach a higher level of understanding when it comes to learning about God, culture, equality, justice, and so much more. The students are attentive and the lessons are fun. Because of the specific Christian environment I work in everyday, I have to learned to better understand the words of the bible and strengthen my relationship with God. If you were to ask me how ready I felt for college at my previous school, I would have said almost not at all. Now, though, I feel confident in my work because of the way we are forced in our assignments and lessons to think deeper with a maturity that I have not seen enforced in other schools.
This is a very good school if you are a smart, athletic person. This school is geared towards college readiness and has a high care for sports. Our school has grown quite significantly since the Covid Pandemic, and arts and music courses have increased as well. The school is mostly well off white people. It is a mostly welcoming community.
