The students are exhausted and overworked, the homework load is insane, students can’t express themselves safely, and many girls who walked in with great time management skills, enthusiasm, and mental health walk out completely stressed and with anxiety disorders or eating disorders. Students who want to move to an honors class are often rejected, even when they achieve straight A’s in their college prep level courses- this is because the school knows the students will make the school look good with their A’s from classes that are too easy. The school puts on a really promising show when there is publicity involved, but they really don’t follow through with that image in reality. The diversity here is lacking! I would not recommend Mount de Sales to anyone who wants a true high school experience. Unlike others claim, the girls do form clique-like groups, and they do not have a sisterly environment. Not worth the money.

Students travel near and far to study with the wonderful Dominican Sisters and esteemed staff at MDSA. We commute 30-40 minutes. This true all-girls Catholic HS is nearly 170 years old with many beloved traditions. The college-prep liberal arts curriculum is very well-rounded and the work loads are challenging. Our daughter has really learned how to be a good student here. AP and Honors classes are offered, partnered with philosophy and religion that together help girls become joyful, caring and responsible adults. The main buildings are historic and the school has made many great improvements inside. The gym, turf field and piazza are recently built, and a new performing arts center is under construction and will open in 2021. Having looked at four all-girls schools, my daughter chose MDSA for its nurturing environment.
As an educator and parent, I sent my first daughter to this school with high hopes. Unfortunately, the school does not live up to stated mission and ideals. The pressure on students creates a culture of anxiety and negativity. The grading scale is not in line with other college prep high schools. Teachers are not accountable for poor instruction and communication. The administration is weak, many policies are mean-spirited, and communication is poor. Diversity is sadly lacking. Compared to the high school my daughter now attends, and the high school my son attended, the science facilities are subpar. Overall I do not recommend this school.
