From Mounds Park Academy

Since 1982, Mounds Park Academy has engaged students in a rigorous college-preparatory experience that inspires. Our PreK-12 academic program is demanding, but not draining, and goes far beyond memorization. Students are challenged to apply their understanding to stir the human spirit, stand for justice, and shake the world. This is what we call rigor with purpose and it is what grounds our students in the radical idea that their identity in the world is not measured by a test score, but by the depth and decency of their impact on the world.

MPA students dream big, roll up their sleeves, and take risks to build creative confidence. They apply the principles of design thinking to create real-world solutions. Extraordinary access to the latest technology allows them to transform the wildness of their imagination into inspiration for others. Students are encouraged to question the answers and by doing so, they find confidence in their voices and are ready and willing to speak.

Our son had been in a highly sought after public school district for K-6, but we felt he needed a smaller and different type of academic environment. After interviewing at different schools in the area, we felt MPA was the best fit for our son and our family. And we were right!

We immediately saw great strides in our son's confidence in the classroom. The small class sizes and the approach the teachers take, allow for great classroom discussions and take learning well beyond memorization/re-telling of facts. MPA promotes problem solving, creative thinking and applying classroom learning to how it can/should fit in the world today. We have great dinner conversations at home with what he's learning during the day at school!

We are thrilled with our choice in MPA and look forward to our son's remaining school years and watching him grow and thrive at this school. MPA is a special place and it's the amazing staff, administration, students and parents that make it so.

MPA has been an incredible experience for my lower school son. He is growing academically through an appropriately challenging, yet purposeful, curriculum. I love how MPA emphasizes character growth on a daily basis through meaningful learning opportunities, not a canned program, nurturing growth in his humility, inclusivity, and compassion. Adding to this is the school's emphasis on language acquisition, visual and performing arts, exceptional communication skills and the value placed on interactions between younger and older students - my son is mentored by older students while also mentoring children younger than himself. This is empowering and inspiring and creates a caring family atmosphere that we deeply value. MPA places value on both the hard and soft skills that lead to student success, growth, and happiness and this approach is helping my son become a creative problem solver and critical thinker. I couldn't be happier, or more grateful, for this opportunity for my son.
MPA teachers 100% have your back. Becasue my teachers know who I am both in and out of the classroom, they work to support me as a whole person. I can't count the number of times teachers have stopped me to ask how my sporting event went the previous night or how college applications are going. The college counselor even has a Keurig machine so you can grab coffee and just talk to her about life! Teachers will bend over backwards to make sure you have time to receive help from them and will work over lunch hours and after school to get you extra help. One upper school SS teacher has arranged tens of speakers to come in and talk to us so we can think about where our love of helping make the world a better place can take us occupationally.

I am nearing the end of my k-12 run at MPA, and I really cannot express enough how grateful I am. Becasue of the teachers, I am a happy, successful student who knows I can go out into the real world and make a difference.
