Monticello High School has a great balance between sports and academics. Coaches understand were well that a players grades comes before their sport because most of the coaches are teachers. This also allows students and teachers to build connects that will last a long time. The food at MHS currently is very rough due to the government, however the cooks always have a smile on their faces everyday. MHS preaches to all its students to get involved, and I highly suggest doing whatever you can because you will meet people that will be your friends forever.
It had its ups and downs. While it isn't incredibly diverse, it has teachers that genuinely care about their students. Teachers listen and work hard to make sure that every student succeeds at MHS. They will go the extra mile. More importantly, the extracurriculars are amazing. Many teams have at the very least made it to Sectionals, if not won State! The music and art departments are also fabulous, and are known state-wide for their excellence. I loved my time at MHS.
Monticello High School focuses well on academics but not enough in performance arts. There is heavy focus on things like SAT and ACT scores which come in handy your Junior/Senior year. The AP classes offered also secure in pushing students to take the test regardless of outcome. As far as things like Theater, Band, and Chorus, there is not enough push by administration in the same way that there is sports. There is also a problem with the school not addressing mental health issues as heavily as they should.
