Montgomery is very focused on IB classes if you are an upperclassmen. A lot of teachers really push the IB diploma when all of that work really isn’t necessary. The better thing to do is take JC classes you are actually interested in. There’s a place for everyone and great sports programs and clubs, and students start new clubs every year! Overall an ok school but my best experiences came from joining cross country/track and basketball. The community you find in sports is unmatched and is a vital part of the high school experience.
Montgomery high school is very unique with its IB program. However, in order for it to fairly compete with the AP program the school needs to expand on it. In my graduating year, only 3 students attempted to get the diploma and there has been a decreasing pattern. Outside of IB the school has a strong student government presence, is adequate in the arts departments, and has unequal funding for sports. The problems that plague Montgomery high school are mostly the same ones that all public schools face in terms of funding, lack of teachers, poor facilities, overcrowded classrooms, etc. On a more personal note from my experience, the teachers are super passionate and understanding. The honors/Ib classes are challenging. There are a multitude of clubs to join. And there is always a fun event to look forward to every month.
I have been at Montgomery for four years. I can say that my time here has been overall good. My teachers have been supporting but when it come to facilities, it is absolute trash! I have ceiling tiles fall on my head and most of the classrooms do not have a working AC or heaters which is ridiculous conditions to come to school with. On top of that, the technology at this school is way behind current technology. We have run down computers and a few Chromebook carts so I think that could be improved
