Monte Vista was the kind of school that prepared me for college, in both its academics and its activities. The amount of accomplishments and talents students here possess is of a higher concentration than I have seen anywhere else, but along with this comes a stress to succeed. The amount of stress at Monte Vista is evident to most students, and is the kind of school where a 4.0 doesn't always feel high enough. Regardless, this school gave me many outlets to enjoy my passions and fuel my creativity through choir, swim, and drama. The quality of friends I have found is incredible, and the size of the student body allowed me to find such friends. There is a lack of diversity, and I sincerely hope that the acceptance of those that are not of the majority increases, although I did see some improvement through my years. I overall had a positive experience at Monte Vista, but the amount of stress to better my resume and receive perfect grades was a little overbearing.
Review Monte Vista High School
Monte Vista definitely gives a fantastic education; its AP classes are top tier and the teachers are excellent. However, the culture in the school is horrible; it makes any student outside of the primary demographic (that is, queer, PoC, low income, disabled, etc.) feel unsafe and unwelcome. For the most part while I was there the staff and teachers did their best to support these students, but much of the student body was intolerant, which interferes with our education. That being said, the new student center is wonderful and MV is probably one of the better schools in the district.
Monte Vista is one of the best public schools in the Bay Area. You won't find many people sending their kids to private schools if they have the option to go to Monte Vista. Not only does Monte Vista provide a large number of clubs and activities for its students, it has wonderful out reach programs. The school is always looking to improve itself for the sake of its students, and that's what makes it so great. Monte Vista is always changing for the better.
