To be honest, this is your small-town, liberal school just outside of the Boulder Bubble, filled with white kids and AP classes. But it's my home, so I'll love it regardless. The thing that will make me hold it dear to my heart is undoubtedly the people. I've met so many life-changing friends through our theatre department and learned so much from the teachers. Diversity is practically nonexistant, but there's definite attempts at trying to be inclusive. The school board makes some interesting decisions, but our admin is usually great. Overall, it's your average public high school in the greatest state in the U.S. (in my entirely unbiased opinion) and I wouldn't change my experience for the world. 'Sko Yotes!
I am currently a senior at Monarch and I have to say, I have had a very good experience here. During my junior year I went to a private school (during 2020 when everyone was online). In comparison the academics were better at the private school, but I did end up returning to Monarch because it really has an incredible high school life for students. The academics are still pretty good and there is a wide range of advanced and AP classes to choose from. There are many clubs as well and it is super fun and easy to get involved in the school life!
I moved to Monarch High School for my senior year. I’ve only been here for the last six months but I’ve found myself fitting in much better than I did at my old school that I attended since preschool. I really like all my teachers, the rest of the students, and staff. Monarch has a great environment being just outside of Boulder but slightly isolated. I feel safe when going to school and I also feel supported. The staff is always accommodating and want what’s best for their students. I really have enjoyed learning, being social, meeting new people, and the new opportunities I have been given at Monarch High School.
