It takes a village to educate a child - this is really true at MAS. Teaching middle school kids is not easy but because of the unfailing support of my instructional coach, assistant principal, cool co - teacher, dean and the rest of the leadership, my journey has never been as enjoyable and fun in the classroom. The strong support of the leadership, my fellow middle school teachers as well as the superb unity of the Science team enabled me to be effective and efficient in the classroom. My students are always excited to experience Science. They are critical and creative thinkers. Yes, we don't accept excuses...we always adhere to our philosophy and that is to always promote EXCELLENCE!
All of my children attended MAS Charter School. I have two daughters who have graduated from MAS and have both gone to college. My youngest child is still attending MAS and this school was instrumental in helping my children. My oldest daughter was not proficient in reading when she started 7th grade, yet graduated as an advanced reader thanks to MAS! They are VERY structured, so if you don't want structure, you won't want to send your child here, but if you value structure and accountable learning for your child, this is the place to go!
If you are looking for a school committed to deliver excellence, MAS is the place to go. I finished my first school year here and will continue working here. This is the only school that is serious in promoting EXCELLENCE for both the staff and students. The professional development trainings and instructional meetings, are among the many techniques done to make sure that all staff are ready every single day and are becoming experts of their respective fields. There is a massive support from the administration through different leadership individuals tasked to closely supervise teachers in their instructional contents and classroom management. I definitely have grown into the better version of a teacher that I can be. I become more dedicated to serve the students of low-income families and help them achieve their dreams. This chain reaction of promoting excellence rooted from the very CEO of the school, Ms. JoAnn Mitchell whose vision is to create equity through education.
