I loved the academic pressure and competition at Mira Costa. The education was top tier and all the classes were excellent. The worst part of this school was the student parking as there was not enough parking for all students that can drive their cars to school. The best part of my high school experience was being able to be taught by amazing educators who cared about their subject as well as their students. I was very grateful and honored to have worked with the teachers at this school as all were highly educated and intelligent. I loved this school and will be sending my future children here as well!
For a California public school, Costa is probably one of the best you'll find. It's a public school and faces the same challenges most public schools do, but all-around it's a good school. There is a culture among students of being high-achieving, and the academics here are good. Sports are also a plus- there are a lot of really impressive sports teams here, and there's something for everyone. I'm pretty slow and unathletic, but I've still had a great time on the XC team. Manhattan is an affluent area and that has it's ups and downs. Cons- there are plenty of entitled rich kids. Pros- a lot of often-ignored programs are better funded and stuff like prom can be really fun!
Mira Costa High School is a very well-rounded high school that provides students with many varying resources to help discover their passions and find what they want to do in the future. I find that a lot of the time it seems that the campus has created a very competitive student culture where it is not as accepted to not have perfect grades and high-level classes, possibly making more stress on many other students to try to "fit in." This past year, my junior year, I feel as if some teachers may need to adapt their curriculum to fit their students needs rather than blaming it on them, whereas they might need to internalize what is wrong with the class and make adjustments to help the students succeed (found this with the history department, specifically APSUH teachers). The math department is a little lack luster with many of the teachers who don't provide the best experience with math learning. However, last year I did have the best teacher ever, Mr. Hughes, who helped me tremendously
