Mnva is an absolutely amazing alternative to a public school building. I can no longer go to a school building because of health issues, and am sure glad I chose this option. The CCs are a great time to be communicating with your teachers, and get to have the content taught by a person and not a website. But, the PE teacher does not do a very good job of adjusting content based on students medical needs. The PE teacher also teaches at a public school 4/5 days a week and thinks everyone online can do the same stuff as the people in ‘regular’ school. For example, he has his students run a timed mile twice a year. A huge amount of students at mnva do online schooling BECAUSE of PE. I personally cannot run 1/2 of a mile without passing out. I told him that and he didn’t give me any alternatives. He told me to run as fast and far as my body can handle, then stop. He should have given me a different activity, like jump roping as many times as I can in ___ seconds!

I am a junior and this is my first year with them! It has really been great because of the flexibility and overall communication between my teachers and I. I think the biggest thing that has contributed to my overall success is how approachable the teachers are. I can communicate my questions, concerns, and comments (respectfully), and get a response very quick using different programs. MNVA HS (I pronounce it Minn-Va) is the best choice for an online high school!
There aren't any extra curriculum activities; advisor doesn't communicate with the parent at all. Teachers don't even call monthly to check up on how the student is doing as they would usually do at other online or charter school. School is not flexible with courses. If you miss any lesson during that day, you would be written as absent and can't complete it the next day. You can't finish anything on weekends or vacations, that would be "Overdoing it." If you 'miss' any lesson over seven times, you would be sent to a meeting discussing that your child would go to court, be taken away from you, or even go to jail. So flexibility is crossed off from the list they supposedly said their school offers. The materials and courses are fun and beneficial towards your child, however. So basically, it's like homeschooling your child you are in charge of making sure they complete assignments, doing attendance, and helping your child with lessons.
