The community at Mingo Valley is so strong. Students and teachers are invested in the well being of one another and push each other to be better at everything they do. I transferred in for 11th grade, and everyone was highly welcoming and helped me get connected and quickly make great relationships. Mingo Valley is a high quality school with high quality people!

It’s true that this can be a comfortable, safe, supportive environment. But that’s only the case if you don’t deviate from what they deem acceptable. You must be cis, hetero, and Evangelical Christian (and probably white and middle-class), or you are going to have problems, both with teachers and with other students.

When I attended, the school cared more about indoctrination than education. Because of this, you will only learn creationism in science classes, and will be ill-equipped for college. You will take Bible classes that either feature arcane arguments about the fine points of Calvinism, or they will “prepare” you to argue with scary liberal college professors. Implicit (and often explicit) in much of what you learn is that anyone who doesn’t agree with their worldview (or with their right-wing politics) will spend eternity suffering in hell.
I greatly appreciated the fact that the teachers cared for the students, and whether or not they understood the material that was being taught. Among the teachers and staff, they work their hardest to create a community and among them it is easy to see the trust and love. During my time attending the school, it was difficult with the lack of diversity within the school. The population of the school was made of about 98% Caucasian families, which did cause some problems with families. Another thing that greatly upset me was that among the people there, in many occasions those who had more money were treated better and had more leniency when they were punished. Coming from a lesser income family, it was upsetting to see my younger sister punished for wearing a certain type of shoes when another girl who was far wealthier than we were get away without any confrontation.
