I attended this school since freshman year and it honestly was a blast. I made friends and built an abundance of relationships right away! From day one, I knew which staff members I could trust and lean on for anything I needed. From security guards to secretaries, every one of them works to the best of their ability to make every student comfortable.
Groups like Spiders Poetry Club, Asian Club, and homework help welcome you with open arms. From my experience, this schools motto is "work hard, play hard". The staff closely recognizes when a majority of the students are working hard to keep up their attendance, GPA's, and decreasing harmful activities and they reward the students. Homecoming dances and pep-rallies are solely for the students' entertainment and it's easy to see they heavily consider what the kids will want.

I moved from Las Vegas, NV to Madison, WI. My daughter attended a magnet school that offered dance as a major of study in Nevada. Unfortunately, there are no high schools in the city of Madison that offered a magnet art school. Her former high school dance coordinator and teacher at her school in Las Vegas, NV graduated from MHSA. It was a blessing that my child was able to be taught by a former student of MHSA. I have no regrets driving 1 hour and 30 minutes five days a week. My daughter took AP courses during her time at the school and she excelled in her studies. She graduated in her junior year with a 3.75 GPA and she's attending the University of The Arts in Philadelphia. This school prepared her for her next God willing journey. Jesus is good!
I appreciated the 2 hours of arts instruction in addition to academics, but it was not intensive, and the students were disruptive. They had immense wonderful opportunities for students in their chosen field of art education, but almost none took advantage of it. The academic staff were usually uninterested in the welfare of the students, and not adept at teaching by any means. I was bored or annoyed most of the time. I had a 4.2 GPA, but’s I had to constantly fight for my education because of miscommunications of the staff, obnoxious classroom environments, and overall inflexibility of the school. There were physical fights weekly, and student-teacher arguments hourly. I did not meet one student that enjoyed their experience at the school of the arts. I left Junior year because for these reasons.
