Mills E. Godwin high school has been the perfect high school for me to attend. I haven’t had many problems with it other than some dumb things, but most schools have little dumb things. Overall, for me as a white woman, the culture and everything was good for me. Last year, apparently we had a high bullying rate, but I bet it was mostly online. I think the only reason we had a high bullying rate was because students today are going to say things. Overall, I like Godwin, it’s spirit, and some help I can get from my teachers. I would recommend Godwin to anyone who has a choice to go there!
It was a very okay experience. Personally, I've never had too much of a notably negative experience but I've definitely heard stories of some. The school is on the larger side and the building itself is very confusing with no windows. My best experiences come from the French teachers and my friends from that class. Overall, the teachers and counselors are friendly and helpful, but there are always some frustrating ones. There can be quite a few safety scares but they're usually dealt with well. The school is big on trying to give resources to interested kids like presentations or pamphlets. The kids can also be a range. There is definitely some bullying and immature behavior.
I really enjoyed virtual school & it’s freedom, so adjusting to in person wasn’t my favorite thing, but I Godwin has a good sense of community. Overall, HCPS provides students with amazing opportunities (speciality centers, variety of APs, ACE centers [advanced career education]), and I cannot recommend the the district enough. Godwin isn’t the best, but it isn’t bad. There’s a comradery that comes with spending your day in a windowless school and- aside from its architectural flaws- students can find people that support them within their 4 years there. Clubs & organizations are strong, and they’re a good way to make friends. As with any school, some teacher make me dread school while others make me look forward to it. However, compared to most rural schools, Godwin is an amazing school that will prepare you for whatever your future has in store. My only serious complaint is the relaxed approach to COVID- if you claim not to have symptoms then you’re sent back to class.
