Midtown High School Reviews
Rating 3.64 out of 5 436 reviews
I like that my school is very diverse, and has great academics. However, they are not perfect. There are teachers and staff that have been at the school for too long, and now feel entitled. Whenever something goes wrong or a student make a complaint their first statement is that they’ve been there so long, they won’t get fired. Another issue is that they’re could sometimes be some discrimination when it come to certain students. For example, staff would allow a certain race of students to do something, but another group of kids couldn’t. I thought I was the only one who felt discriminated against until the topic was discussed in my current issues class. There, is where I learned that a good number of black and Hispanic students felt the same way. Even, our counterpart peers could point out the difference.
Most of my teachers from 9-12th grade were amazing! Although some were much more unforgiving than others, they were all very educated in their field. Especially Mr. Brandhorst and Mr. Rodriguez! They helped me all throughout high school to ensure my success, and I am in still in contact with them to this day. The student life is something that could be improved upon. There were numerous fights there, and most would take ages to break up. I feel like the administration did a poor job of enforcing the rules and making the students for fearful of breaking them. Most students undermined authority and outright disrespected them for fun. It was incredibly irritating.
Pros:
Strong sense of safety (including metal detectors)
Most teachers take time to care for their student's academic performance
Great area, plenty of nearby locations for after-school hangouts
Plenty of after-school activities available for everyone
Easy to obtain accommodations for health
Plenty of courses for everyone's interests
Ample time to complete assignments
Easy to access grades and assignments in every class
Cons:
Most teachers have little care for their students' mental health
Strict attendance reputation, including fining students for missing school
High cheating ratio
Strict cell phone policy, even when cell phones may be necessary
Not a lot of availability with college and health counselors
