Middle College High School Reviews
Rating 3.87 out of 5 151 reviews
In my experience at Middle College High School, I've come across nothing less than admirable students and staff alike. I have been given immense opportunities with college and other aspects to prepare students like me for college. The teachers in the school are understanding and cater to the student's needs. Teachers provided tutoring hours after school that allow students to achieve extra help outside of school. The school is a dual enrollment school. The courses are rigorous, but they allow students to achieve AA degrees and IGETC degrees while in high school. This school is challenging even though students who should apply here know what the school entails, but counselors provide mental health resources for students struggling. There is also great diversity throughout the school. Resources for student minorities are provided. Overall, the school accepts and allows students to be prosperous and achieve outstanding college-level courses and degrees while in high school.
The experience was just about what you'd expect from a high school---nothing too crazy, really. The staff, albeit nauseating to deal with at times, are well-meaning, competent in their respective fields of work, and more than capable of catalyzing student growth via their guidance and assistance. The English and physics teachers just about rounded out the staff experience for me---it was a delight working with them. The facility itself isn't much to write home about, though its smaller-than-usual size lends itself to the provocation of a feeling of belonging within students. My experience was, overall, a "mild" one. There were no particularly lofty highs, nor were there any particularly shallow lows. The environment was generally a welcoming one and there's not much I'd change about the overall experience, for I look back on it quite fondly.
Middle College is a dual enrollment high school and due to that, the biggest challenge I have faced is the work overload. The hardship of adjusting to high school by itself can be stressful so adding college classes can be a lot. I have dealt with mental exhaustion because of the high school and college workload but mostly due to my ambition. I came from a charter school where safety was something I had to worry about but not so much about the classes being hard, so changing to a school that truly challenged my critical thinking was an adjustment. I took AP Biology as a freshman and that's why I feel it was a lot but that's also been a great experience. To be in a school where I could relate to other students and not fear for my safety was astonishing. I would like to see a change in the focus on academics only, a school where teachers have more personal relationships with students. A school where there are more elective classes for students to express themselves beyond academics.
