I have attended Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy since I was in the 6th grade, and I am now a Junior. I believe that I have received an excellent education and feel that I will be prepared for the rigor of college academics. The principal is approachable and really cares about his students. The teachers have high expectations, but provide support and help. The environment is safe, and good for learning. I recommend it as a wonderful institution of learning! The only downside is no girls, but there's plenty of time for that on the weekends.

Coming in as a 6th grader to an all-boys school was different. At first, I didn't like it but throughout the years all these boys aren't just my "friends" they're my family, my brothers. Now as a senior, I am looked at as an influence on the lower classmen. We have each other's backs, whether if everything is good and bad. Mickey Leland is more than just a college preparatory school, it's an opportunity, an opportunity to become a strong young male in the real world.
One of the best things about Young Mens is the comradery. At every school, someone is more than likely to have a group of friends that they stick with until their graduating year. Unlike those said schools, however, Mickey Leland's friend group strecthes throughout each high school grade level. Due to the small class size, people are more than likely to see each other in the next class, resulting in a better connection throughout the student body. This leads to a more humblimg experience compared to other high schools, and one that I will look back on for years to come.
