When I first walked into MCC 9th grade 2015, I wasn't the best student,I barely went to school and my GPA wasn't the greatest. The iPrep program that they started that same year, however, gave me a chance to take honors, AP, and dual enrollment courses which boosted my GPA up. When it came to my senior year, I took a took advantage of the school's resources and got 4 honor rolls, joined the girl's soccer team (lead defense), was 2019's Yearbook Editor In Chief, and had a wonderful internship at the City Hall of Miami Gardens. Administrators closely became family as they helped me in incredible ways, even get into a university I was previously denied to! I hope students recognize how much this school can help them even if they feel hopeless. As I start transitioning into the college setting, I hope to spread the word of how a "not so great" school helped me achieve so much.

My experience with Miami Carol City Senior is a strange one honestly. From 9th grade to 12th grade I was involved in their IPREP program where a select group of students were picked to be isolated for the most part from the other mass of students. We had our own building and it was only about 30 of us that constantly went down every year. They gave us laptops that lasted our entire High School career and we were really separated from most of the other student unless the class was an elective or we were at lunch. This only led to us having a better relationship with administration so we had a little bit of pull with what happened in the school but not enough to be a big deal. While i know my experience could only be shared by a minority, I do think this school was great for my development as most of the teachers really seemed to care about us as individuals. Just as long as you managed to stay out of trouble there is a great experience to be found here.
Although Carol City is seen as an average school, you can make the most out of it if you take advantage of the opportunities offered in school. Putting effort into your academics and creating connections with the teachers and administration can open up doors for you. I've seen people who've reached their fullest potential in this school and I think these type of kids are the students we need to bring this school up. I believe if the school focused more on academics and pushed forward good behavior then many students would be able to reap the benefits from Carol City.
