What do I like about MetWest High School? MetWest encourages you, pushes you, and helps you towards your goals! Through MetWest I have met such caring people who will stick with me. They have provided their feedback in times of need, which helped me realize in what areas as a student I can work on. I have received great support through my college application process, with checkins 2-3 times a week. College writing, reviewing financial aid, college decisions and much more! With the help of EBC staff at MetWest it was definitely a smooth Senior Year for me, as I am sure it was for the other students as well. Thank you to the advisors who has always asked us what they can support us with, for your checkins and Monday circles, it was something I always looked toward to! I am glad I’ve met such caring people.
Metwest is a tiny school with a population of about 300 students divided into two campuses. The second campus was built three years ago, creating a larger student population and changing the school's learning structures. As the last original senior class of Metwest, I was fortunate enough to experience the original curriculum as well as the current one. This school fosters a tightly-knit community and real work experiences through integrating internships into the main student schedules and courses. Internships teach students many professional skills, skills you wouldn't get through a normal school which is a significant aspect of this school. There are some problems though. A subpar STEM education particularly Math and Science due to the lack of an engaging class and even fewer stem teachers, it prevents students from achieving such an education through the school alone. I surpassed this barrier by utilizing college courses at Laney, a community college just a block away from Metwest
MetWest High School was the perfect school to help me transition into high school life. There is plenty of one on one support, and your advisor stays with you throughout your four years! Most or all staff know you by name, and there are many internship and volunteer opportunities. The school makes you feel heard and part of the community, and it pushes you to get out of your comfort zone and engage in meaningful work for the community that you are also interested in.
