From Metro East Web Academy

MEWA is an online public charter school approved by the Oregon Department of Education. The school's web-based curriculum meets Oregon state standards and Highly Qualified teachers provide the instruction.
Each academy student receives a personalized education program designed to meet their unique needs.
The Metro East Web Academy is specifically designed for students who find a traditional classroom setting does not meet their needs. We continue to develop strategies that support students that feel held back by traditional school as well as support for disengaged, disenchanted, or disenfranchised students so as to harness their interests and creativity in order to succeed. We believe home school students, home bound students, and students who have exited school before graduating will find the Metro East Web Academy a suitable educational option. MEWA staff are keenly attuned to student motivation and recognition, and we take great pride in celebrating student success.

I attended for my last two years of high school. It was a good alternative to traditional public school. I was bullied so didn't feel safe or in a comfortable learning environment at public school. The teachers at Metro East Web Academy were very supportive and flexible. They allowed me to finish high school successfully. It could be better if the academics were more rigorous. Also sometimes I missed out on traditional public school experiences like clubs and sports. They had a few clubs, but since I did my school work from home it was hard to get to the physical location and not a lot of people were there. I did enjoy how they would put on field trips occasionally to cool places. I could get out of the house and meet some other students.

Metro East Web Academy has a program that allows individuals to gain high school and college credits at the same time! This opportunity resulted in not only a high school diploma, but also an associates degree by the time I graduated. I would highly recommend this for students who are ready to start on their next adventure.
When I came into my senior year, I was 11 credits from graduating and I didn't really believe I could pull off something like that. But the MAPS programs felt like it was there for me when I needed it the most. I wasn't sure about it in the beginning because I was used to taking a good time on work to make it perfect. With this program, I was not only able to make my work perfection but learn to do it in a shorter period of time. And all the work payed off, I graduated early which is something that I never thought I would able to do, and even gave a speech at my graduation. I got to say that this school is great and it saved me, if I were at any other school they probably wouldn't have allowed me to take all those classes and I would have ended up as a super senior. I am so thankful for MEWA, and all the great people that work their. If I could give a million stars to them I would.
