Metro Early College High School is an amazing school! The teachers, students, and administrators are all very friendly. The classes are challenging but in a good way, because by "forcing" you to get an A in the class, you end the class truly comprehending the material that you learned. On top of that, by the end of your sophomore year, you can have ALL of your high school credits, because each semester you have four, hour and a half classes. Also, because the school was co-founded by OSU and Battelle, by your senior year, you can be taking ALL college classes at either OSU or Columbus State. My sister graduated in 2018 with 36 OSU college credits; she knows, as a sophomore, holds a junior standing because of all of the extra credits she gained in high school. The best thing about it is that the classes you take are 100% FREE!
This school provides purposeful, hands-on learning for the real world. The Metro Habits drive the school: Effective Communicator,Inquiring Learner,Active and Responsible Decision Maker,Effective Collaborator,Critical Thinker,Engaged Learner. The school still feels very young and not as organized from an administrative standpoint but, if you are willing to navigate the constant changes, you can benefit greatly from all the school has to offer. This is a school of mastery: you must get an "A" in each course assignment to move on. When you complete a course, you really do know the content. There are no AP or IB courses, which leaves students at a disadvantage although the opportunity to take actual college courses is built into the school structure.
At Metro, students are required to pass all their classes with a minimum of a 90%. This is what is called the mastery system, and is placed in order to help students learn how to study and work hard. Should a student fail, or get below a 90% on any assignment, they are allowed to retake or resubmit that assignment. At metro many students are provided with the resources they need to accomplish the high standards. Office hours are provided, and teachers are willing to give one-on-one time. In addition, there are a few tutoring opportunities.
