My favorite thing about Merritt High is it doesn't feel like a school. It feels like a family, in everything. In all of my classes there is great chemistry and smiles all around. Our sports programs are through the room with top on the line facilities. The single thing that I wish to change about Merritt High would be: off-campus lunch. Less than 6 miles away is multiple restaurants that we could all go eat at instead of the school cafeteria.
I started attending Merritt School when I was 7 years old, and I was going into the first grade. I don't have any bad experiences while attending Merritt, but like any school there are a few things I feel could be changed with a little effort.

First, I think the teachers could take more pride into their everyday work. Not all the teachers, but some give off a vibe that they don't want to be there teaching which makes the students not want to be there learning. If the teachers would show up ready to teach then the students might become more eager to learn and not dread the day. Also, there is way too much bullying going on between the students and even the teachers. It's bad enough that some students get picked on from their peers, but when teachers join in it makes the students feel worse.

With all that being said there are some good things about Merritt also. I have never had over 30 students in each of my classes so there has been a great amount of one-on-one time between the students and teachers, which made learning easier for those who needed extra help.

My best experience at this school would, without a doubt, be Legacy Week. In the middle of my Junior year we had a week where everyone came together and made an effort to be exceptionally nice to each other. The High School students gave long talks to the Junior High about things we wish we would have been told we were in their place. Since High schoolers and Junior high students don't usually socialize it was a great way for us to get to know each other, and it had a positive effect on everybody. Nobody shows much school spirit, but during that week everyone was showing how proud they were to be a Merritt Oiler.
