Best decision we could have made.
Real family/community environment. Younger kids have older mentors.
As a 7th grader, he is already learning about Physics & engineering. He says these classes are the best ever. Math, Science, Technology classes are so hands-on! Additionally, they learn the reason for math like Algebra. Most schools teach subjects as unrelated silos of info. At the Meridian, the subjects are INTEGRATED.
The school customizes learning (e.g., very small advanced Spanish class or coding class). Languages are 1 of 3 pillars of learning, so learning a foreign language is paramount every year.
No loud bells going off, teachers are great, & students are able to be totally involved in their learning. They don't need an external reward system like grades. They want to learn & do their best. You don't just slack off & write a report to get by w/ a C. You actually learn to write, revise & master your topic. It is not about tests & grades; it is about learning!

Our child joined Meridian in high school, after attending another independent school for grades K-8. We chose Meridian because of its progressive educational philosophy, its commitment to diversity, its dedication to the arts, and its convenient, urban location. Our child loves Meridian for its interdisciplinary academics (two core classes-- Humanities & MST-- instead of four) and its warm, welcoming community. All of the teachers and students are smart, interesting, and unique!
I absolutely love Meridian. I transferred here from a larger public school with great academics, but was strongly focused on the memorization and test-taking aspect of school. Meridian Academy actually allows their students to learn. There are so many opportunities here and the academics are extremely enriching. We focus on interdisciplinary and project-based learning, while using the metropolitan area as our classroom. Learning is personal and inquisitive, and the students and faculty form a strong and supportive community. College prep is extremely useful, as a senior I have two full blocks dedicated to college prep each week. One highlight of my high school career was my Junior Research Project. Every year, each junior takes on a research paper and project on a topic of their choosing. Not only is it enjoyable and fulfilling, but it is also extremely helpful in the long run, especially for college. Overall, Meridian Academy is a wonderful school, and I strongly recommend attending.
