Mercy High School is an enriching, uplifting institution that empowers the women it educates and facilitates independence, compassion, community service, and innovation. As a Catholic all girls school, immense emphasis is placed on the value of kindness and service. Students work with and for one another, creating bonds to rival sisterhood and lifelong friendships. The school offers numerous extensive programs for students with learning differences or students who wish to challenge themselves with rigorous course loads. Mercy also has a wide range of clubs and honors societies that students can be involved in. I have been able to thrive and succeed in the loving, uplifting community of Mercy, being supported in every aspect of my life.
Going to Mercy Burlingame which is an all girl school the girls here can develop their hobbies, voice their opinions, and become more self-assured in a safe environment free from prejudice or gender-based stereotypes. A smaller community can also encourage a close-knit environment and offer more individualized support and attention from teachers and peers. As with any school, there can be areas for improvement. Some kids may desire better technology resources, a more diverse student body, or greater possibilities for extracurricular activities. Some students might also think that the school might benefit from a more forward-thinking curriculum that addresses contemporary social issues and equips pupils for a world that is changing quickly. In conclusion, even though an all-girl school in a small town can have many benefits, it is crucial to continually assess and enhance the institution in order to meet the changing needs of its pupils.
Mercy High School Burlingame’s pros outweigh the cons. It’s an environment where you are embraced for your differences. The student body is diverse across all categories: race, sexuality, class, home life etc. It’s where I’ve made life-long connections and valuable relationships. The teachers went beyond their role as educators and took on the roles of supporter, mentor, friend, and role model. It is an environment where I felt comfortable as a young filipina woman who comes from a lower-middle class household to excel. I was welcomed with open arms when trying a new sport. They supported boundlessly when I was struggling the most with my academics and mental health. Mercy made me proud to be a woman. It taught me to use my voice and use it loudly. Every woman there — educator, staff member, or peer — has been a role model for me. In the future, the change I would like to see is more young girls excited to go there transitioning from middle school to high school.
