What I really like about Menlo Atherton HS is all of the student support that is offered and the great school spirit activities. One of the most helpful support areas at MA is the college and career center; the counselor is great and always available to help students with anything related to the college process. The school spirit activities are also an integral part of MA. The various student run activities throughout the year include selling delicious food, student bands playing at lunch, club rush, and spirit groups at sporting events. These activities really bring MA together more as a community.

In Menlo-Atherton, I liked the diversity that is seen throughout the school. It is still a bit segregated. It is rare to see races mix throughout campus, but other than that M-A is seen as one of the schools with most diversities. I also like how it offers many support systems for students with low income and those who struggle speaking English. M-A offers many ways to support students with academics and extracurricular. I also enjoy how my school offers many clubs for students and offers the opportunity to create new ones even though there are hundreds of clubs existing already. One thing M-A can work on is encouraging students to join advanced classes so they won't be as segregated. Rigorous courses are very segregated and as a latina student being enrolled in advanced classes was very difficult as I felt left out because there were many students who felt superior from us. Other than that Menlo-Atherton is a very good school and I am glad to be a bear.
Menlo-Atherton High School is a very good high school if you are coming from a good place - either a good middle school education or high school if you are transferring. While MA prides itself on it's slogan "Strength in Diversity" the school is visually segregated, not only during social hours but also in classrooms. While MA has exceptional academic resources and did a great job preparing me and many of my peers for college, if you don't already show great potential/aren't already on a track to success, the school tends to neglect you. In the past the school has been unsuccessful in its attempts to integrate academics, forcing students who are unprepared for the level of rigor into AP classes which results in a watered down class for kids looking for a challenge and a class that sets up unprepared students for failure. All this said, MA is still a great school as far as high schools go- good extracurricular programs and a progressive campus culture.
