Memphis Junior/Senior High School Reviews
Rating 3.96 out of 5 23 reviews
This school is in a small town and has few students.
Band, marching band, and choir are the heart of this school. Many students are involved. There is also a color guard with the marching band, whose performances are the highlight of the home football games (every other Friday). Parents are very involved in fundraisers and events, which creates a unique, fun experience.
However, the small number also causes problems. Extracurriculars like sports, the arts, and clubs face problems. The small number of people means that many of these activities are cancelled because not enough people are interested. There is no theatre/drama, and many programs are constantly on the verge of being cancelled due to lack of participants/leaders. The previously mentioned color guard was only started back up because a parent volunteered.
While the sports teams are fun and teammates are close to one another, students will often move to other schools if they want to be scouted.

Attending Memphis was fairly well for a smaller school. The teachers and administration treated me fairly well and knew my needs when they were supposed to be met.
The college advisor was the most helpful and made sure that throughout our junior and senior years, we were ready and applied for college, and helped us through the process if needed.
The only thing I would critique is the resources. I do believe that the funding goes where it's needed, but more resources are needed in the classroom, especially with the more hands on classes such as science.

Memphis Community Schools are a tight-knit community where everyone knows everyone. You didn't have to worry about being a number here, you were an individual. The teachers and other staff knew everyone's name. The school is small, but mighty, as the band director loves to say. The Memphis Schools are great to attend.
