My freshman year of High School, I actually attended online at Monona Grove High School in Madison, Wisconsin. Sophomore year I attended Memorial in person and the experience here is amazing. Meeting new friends, losing some, and learning from them, and moving on. The high school experience is not all cupcakes and rainbows but truly, I do believe you become the person you want to be just by doing your best and by surrounding yourself with those who support and who really care for you are the people who will last years with you. The most people I depend on are my own family, especially my parents, who have always taught me to do my best no matter what. Arriving my senior year, is the time it all comes to mind and I started to really take it in after my 1st week. This is it. This is the last time I will be leaving my mark here with my favorite teachers, all the emotions, crying, smiling, laughing, communicating with others, overall just expressing my true self in my work & who I am.
Madison Memorial has many amazing teachers and coaches! The support I received for my 4 years there was amazing, even during the pandemic. My senior year there was difficult, as one Friday in April, we went home as normal, never to return. The teachers prevailed and continued to teach us online, which is not an easy task. My coaches, both football and baseball continued to coach us, not only in our sport, but mentally and physically. They encouraged us to continue to work hard at our grades, and stay physically active right from home, as all the gyms and schools closed. There were teachers that continuously checked in on me to make sure I was finishing the school year on a positive note. We had no graduation ceremony, but one of my middle school teachers came to my home, and stood in my front yard to congratulate me. She did this for each and every student that she taught, which was over 250 students! Overall, my experience at Madison Memorial High School was a rewarding one!
My experience at Memorial high school was a journey. Some of the best parts of that school was the students and teachers collaboration and activities that would be scattered throughout the year. Meeting my friends was the best. Some of the worst parts of the school were that the security and amount of students in the halls, and the smell of vaping in the bathrooms were very pungent. And the amount of bomb threats and lockdowns and lockouts so we had. Overall, I had a great four years. I would like to see more strength in the security area and just keeping students in line and safe.
