Many of my teachers were apathetic and careless towards the students. Teachers of Meade High School taught for the test and didn't care what the students learned from the classes. Few of the teachers were very useful and did care genuinely about the well-being of the students. To become a teacher you need a degree in whatever you are teaching, right? Wrong! Many teachers had no formal degree in what they were teaching, they were just cogs of the department chair who at the beginning of the year would assign them to a class even if they had never taught it or studied it in their lives.
Meade High School creates an environment that doesn't value education, but instead values test scores and drama. The common activities among people at this school is to fight, have sex, and to do drugs. Those who strive to overcome adversity in this school are only punished by those who aren't intelligent enough to know that applying for an upper level class when they can't handle it only hurts the other students who can handle it. This school has wonderful pieces to it and like all high schools they have their problems, but this school has more problems than solutions. The administration has no control over students and only stands back and watches as they simultaneously ruin their lives. The population of this school is too high and the thought of learning at your own pace was close to impossible with there being 30 other kids in a classroom.
I'm in the IB Program at my school, which is extremely vigorous, even more so than AP, so as far as the academics, I believe that I am getting a fair share of good knowledge. The workload for IB classes are overkill and stressful, sadly. However, when I was in honors courses my freshman year, I think that the academics were decent, and could use some improvement. Depending on the level of difficulty classes you are taking, sometimes determines whether the teachers really care to see you succeed or not.
