McNeil High School has drastically improved in all categories from when I was a freshman to a senior. The school cares deeply about the students' education by constantly implementing new and helpful ways to learn. It is clear that a lot of effort has been going into keeping the classrooms up to date with technological advancements to educate students. The quality of the STEM academies as well as the Music & Art academies has had a profound impact on my academic experience at McNeil. The administration is always looking for ways to improve student life, and the teachers have such a captivating way of teaching that exposes their love and drive for teaching and ignites a love for learning within the students.
Loved the diversity of students to include races, ethnicities, religions. However, my high school experience included COVID and definitely feel like I did not get the learning experience I could have. We also faced a teacher shortage so several classes had no teachers throughout the year.
The school was also under construction my entire 4 years which makes it difficult to navigate and stay motivated.
Loved the dual credit program with ACC and the counselors are super helpful. Communication from the school is consistent and thorough. Overall, with COVID and everything, the experience was good.

Being at Mcneil for almost a year and a half has been incredibly stressful. There's an incredible amount of work, and I hardly have time to do other things. Majority of the teachers I have had are rude to their students or don't respect their preferred name or pronouns. Almost every (female) bathroom in this school is covered in graffiti, or missing doors, soap dispensers, toilet paper, or other things. Plus, many of the bathrooms are broken or out of order and locked the majority of the time. I was put into advanced and AP classes without wanting to be in them, and it is incredibly exhausting to keep up with the classes. I was told by some peers and teachers to ask my counselor to switch out, and was given a list of requirements (aimed at seniors who are missing credits) that I did not apply to and wasn't able to switch out. I want my school to pay our teachers more, and spend more money on learning materials and desks rather than new building upgrades and things we don't need.
