McLean High school is a place where I feel very welcome because of the acceptance of people with differences. I would describe this school as very progressive and wanting to achieve a deep understanding of the world around us. This school aims to teach kids the best way to use their differences and their abilities to be great in the world, not just to pass a class. There are also lots of opportunities available at the school, such as, CTE classes, medical based classes, honors and AP options, and a variety of school sports and clubs to choose from. No matter what you are interested in, there is something for you at McLean, and the potential to create something new that is your very own. The counselors at the school are also super helpful with figuring out what is best for each student. Shout out to Mrs.Talmage, a guidance counselor at McLean who works really hard to help her students!
Mclean is a pretty great school for a public school option. The school is a good environment for students to grow into responsible and well-adjusted young adults. The staff is great, but if you get a teacher you don't like, I really advise that you talk to your counselor because being stuck with a teacher that doesn't accommodate your learning needs will be detrimental to your education at McLean. The school does have cockroaches, so never leave your backpack open or one might crawl in(talking from experience). STEM classes are great at McLean and they offer a lot of interesting electives, so make sure to try everything out while you're there! Overall, it's a great school.
I feel like McLean screams out how they're different and how diverse it is and yet I still feel like I'm one of the three people of color in my classes. It's a daily struggle to see just rich, white students who are extremely privileged not understand how lucky they are. It has also taught me a lot about people and racism and how to get through that even in 2020! I loved some of my teachers and some of them I didn't. Overall school is very average and I would say overrated.
