McFatter Technical College High School Reviews
Rating 4.16 out of 5 451 reviews
McFatter was a wonderful school that I'm proud to say I attended. Teachers and Staff were willing to help you out if you ever asked and there were plenty of tutoring opportunities. Although we may not have a sports team or a proper band, we make up for it with plentiful clubs. The P.E. course was also very fun. They offer many AP courses that will all help complete your GEP requirements for college, as well as offer Dula Enrollment. The technical programs really are the star of the show. I'm coming out of high school already as a nurse! How cool is that? Anyone can go in and come out with many different certifications that can help you immediately find a better-paying job. Despite also being a college campus, the school takes extra precautions to keep the high school students and the college students separated and have plenty of officers on site if anything were to happen. And lastly, our fires and patty melts are to die for!
The school has many amazing teachers. It is clear by their teaching style that they care about you and want to see you succeed. The best part of my experience was the interactions I had with my teachers, as well as the activities I participated in with friends. I also love that the school is a small sized school, which keeps the school from feeling too overcrowded and overwhelming. The part of high school that I would change is the amount of events. I would like to see more class events done, but I also understand that my experience was different than the “normal” experience because of the pandemic. However, I was very happy with my high school experience.
McFatter is a great school, but it is definitely not for everyone. It is not a traditional high school, this means no big football games, huge school activities, study hall, etc. BUT I think that those are all things you can sacrifice and build your own high school experience. I personally really liked the 4x4 college block schedule, that way you only have 4 classes at a time to worry about. The classes aren't super rigorous, and 90% of the teachers there are AMAZING. Some of the things I preferred at McFatter that some others didn't really like is the late start time. We started at 9:15 and ended at 4:10 every day, which seemed a little late to some people, but it really impacts the amount of sleep you get every morning. You have so many different options for lunch every day and you are part of a pretty tight-knit community because you have a max of 150 people per grade. You'll have even more fun in your tech program as well. There is something for everyone!!
