McFarland is a great high school that prepares you academically for college, as well as having a great tech program and school to work to prepare students that are entering the job force after graduating. The teachers are great and a lot of the classes are at a college level which I have found has made college feel like a breeze. They have very talented sports programs and great facilities. Admin is not so great and pusher a lot of major issues under the table. Diversity is very low, it’s a 90%+ white student population, which led to a lot of racial-biased incidents and micro agressions. The theatre and music program is great. Teachers really care about their students and it’s overall a great public high school.
McFarland High School assists students in order for them to excel in whichever path they may follow. Teachers are equipped with empathy and academic education. Educators are role models for the students, always there to help them. I connected with one teacher, in particular, she helped with my academic challenges, including my mental health. She provided thoughtful and logical advice. For example; at the start of my High school career I struggled with social anxiety. Presentations paralyzed me at site, making it impossible to stand in front of the class let alone speak. However, within two years of meeting this teacher, I presented a poem in class that is to be published in a literary magazine. This makes for a safe learning environment that allows for individual attention to each student. Overall, this school is excellent in providing academic support and education to its students.
My experience at McFarland High School was mostly average, but it has its ups and downs. The majority of the teachers were very easy to talk to and helpful during times, and some teachers would treat kids unfairly. There were a lot of favorite students at this school, and some kids would get more special treatment. The school district is overall accepting of all groups of people which I really liked, but they didn't put enough information out there on how to get involved more. They also only have two guidance counselors for the whole school which made is challenging to schedule appointments with them. There should be more donation options and volunteer opportunities to get kids helping their community. I did not enjoy the four point grading scale as it made it harder for me to take interest in what I was learning. It was very hard for me to keep up at times, and the four point scale made it harder to get A´s.
