The McDonogh School is a great academic institution that provides a diverse culture for learning. The teachers and administrators are compassionate, charismatic, and passionate about what they do. The administration ensures that class sizes are kept small for great student to teacher ratios. They have great clubs for students to become involved in; future business leaders of America, Robotics, and fashion design just to name a few. The cafeteria food provides the students with nourishment. They offer various male and female competitive and non competitive sport activities; soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball, softball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and squash. There equestrian program is like not other. They have amazing stables, not to mention acres of farm land. It’s a great place to be apart of!

Overall good education with a some flaws. In the lower school, most teachers are attentive, nurturing, and make learning enjoyable. In middle and high school too much emphasis on sports. Teachers that double as sports coaches are not available enough for students with classroom questions during study hall or before/after school. Sports come 1st for these teachers.
Overall, the curriculum is top notch!
Diversity is getting better but complex issues are still swept under the rug. For example: the yearly Founders Day ceremony idolizing John McDonogh but never acknowledging that our school was literally built on the backs of slaves. McDonogh is currently starting to acknowledge this troubled history, which is great, but it shouldn’t have taken so long.
Also, there is SO much bullying at this school, and teachers either do nothing to stop it or are part of the bullying itself. I have been routinely bullied by more than one teacher during my time at McDonogh. Once, I even had to drop out of class and switch into a different section part way through the year for the sole reason that my teacher would not stop bullying me and consistently mocking me in front of the entire class. Administration didn't help at all. The school counselor is a complete joke and just plain awful. I do feel prepared for college, but if I could do it all over again, I definitely would not have gone to McDonogh.
