Mayo High School is a great atmosphere for all students and staff. I currently am a junior at Mayo and I would not choose to be anywhere else but here! The student body comes together for so many different activities and events, and it really shows how big of a relationship we form with one another. There are so many different clubs you are able to join to find a sense of belonging and the support from staff is AMAZING! Teachers are always willing to sit down and meet with you one on one to figure things out, administration is very helpful is all situations and circumstances, and the guidance counselors go so far above and beyond to help you with mental/emotional help, college planning, scheduling problems, and so much more! I am able to choose classes that I think will push me enough as well as pick classes that are fun and engaging. I've also learned so many leadership skills and how to be more communicative with others. I am very happy that my parents sent me to Mayo!
It is generally accepted among the Rochester community that Mayo is the best of the three RPS high schools. School spirit is BIG, and everybody (even staff) goes all out during spirit weeks and at school events. There are many opportunities to get involved inside the school and out, and it is fairly easy to find a club you like or start your own. The variety of the courses offered is alright; there are many science and math classes for those interested in STEM, but not a ton for those wanting to pursue fields in the social sciences outside of those required to graduate. Some of the teachers I've had I know will have an impact on me for the rest of my life, especially those teaching social studies and English! The parking lot could definitely use some renovation, and if you don't park directly next to one of the two exits, you'll be stuck in the lot for 15+ min at the end of the day. Overall, though, I've loved my time here and would recommend.
Mayo High School is filled with positive energy, diversity, and hard-working staff. Mayo has so many different sports, clubs and opportunities for their students. A downside to Mayo is their teachers. Unfortunately there are many teachers that are burnt out, but even still they work so hard to create amazing learning environments. There are many different types of students at Mayo with a lot of different learning styles. The teachers and staff try to provide various learning experiences. I'd like to see more choices with classes like Latin and sign language as options.
