Maynard Jackson is a good public school, but like most public schools, there are some parts of the school that need improvement. In the IB program, very few IB diploma candidates actually receive the diploma. While this may be due to a lack of student motivation, it could be attributed to the fact that the school does not hold its students to a very high standard. Additionally, the resources available to students in the college and career center are not easily accessible or advertised throughout the school. Finally, there is segregation between students in IB/honors programs and students taking regular level classes. While this may not be preventable, it creates two distinct social groups within the school.

Still, my experience at Maynard Jackson was very positive. I felt challenged in most of my classes and had teachers that cared about every single one of their students. I made great friendships through classes and sports teams, and I grew both socially and academically.

I graduated from MJHS this past May. I enjoyed my overall experience at the school because it was very inclusive of the different interests of its students. There are sports, anime club, chess club, debate club, subsequently there is something for everyone and if a club a student is interested in doesn’t exist they are encouraged to create it!
Maynard Holbrook Jackson high school was an interesting and decent-sized school. In my freshman year, we finally were able to get the school off of a list for poorly performed and behaved students. Additionally, we were able to score a 100% passing rate in my class for a state test. Education was taught thoroughly for the most part, and it was a highly enjoyable experience. Despite the rockiness of the school climate and academic scene, I would say it was a good high school. I would not want to go to a different high school, and I do have pride in my school. It was not the best, but you do not need to be the best to be good.
