As a parent of a VPK & Kindergartner, I cannot say enough good things about May Sands. I did traditional classroom learning where you sit in a desk and a teacher teaches. I was nervous and skeptical that my child wasn't going to learn or wasn't going to be forced to do "work" activities. This program is AMAZING! Everything they do is hands-on and is accompanied by bookwork. They learn together and teach others which only reinforces their own learning. May Sands works on the "whole child" they create kind and caring people who excel in learning. The school is a great community if you like to be involved in your child's education.
We were really grateful to learn that Key West had a FREE Public Montissori charter school when we moved here. My 2nd grader started off at a private Montessori school in Pre-K it was expensive but worth the money. The area we originally lived in did not get a Free Public Montessori Charter school until we were in1st grade so we had to do kindergarten at a regular public school and my child didn't enjoy it or excel.
We loved the original Public Montessori we found but unfortunately had to move for safety reasons.(domestic violence) May Sands has been really great, aside from having great curriculum the teachers, staff and the school resource officers were extremely helpful in ensuring our family's safety and providing much needed resources during our time of need and transition.
The school counselor is really great at what she does as are the teachers and the rest of the staff.
The after-school programs are really great aswell and very helpful for parents who need a sitter.

This is a gem of a school. I never thought I'd be able to send my children to a Montessori school tuition-free. The teachers are kind and compassionate. The curriculum is challenging and the school culture is very nurturing. There is a strong parent involvement component that makes it feel like a family. I really couldn't ask for more for my boys.
