From Maur Hill - Mount Academy

Maur Hill - Mount Academy is a Catholic, boarding and day, college prep high school located in Atchison, Kansas. Founded in 1863 by Benedictine sisters and monks, MHMA educates young men and women with our mission rooted in every aspect of the school: Live the Faith. Pursue the Truth. Strive for Excellence.

Boarding has been a main part of our history, we have students from all around the U.S. and world. Our alumni will tell you how inviting the campus community feels, the kindness of our staff and faculty, and the many opportunities provided.

In the classroom our students are challenged by our engaging faculty. Small classes allow for personal attention. Our flex-mod class schedule teaches students time management skills and how to advocate for themselves so that they can be better prepared for college/university.

We want students to become the man or woman that God created them to be. We want their very best in classes, amongst their peers, on the field, and in our community.

College on Training Wheels

With a college prep curriculum we challenge our students every day, with our "Flex-Mod Schedule" or college on training wheels we can take this step even further. The Flex-Mod schedule allows more time for academic support, teaches time management skills, and increases student participation in extracurricular activities. All while still completing advanced courses to move onto the next level.

I attended MH-MA for all four years of high school and had a great experience!

High School brings a lot of challenges, and I had a great community to journey through those four years with. Many of the teachers I had were very dedicated to their students and guiding them towards success - always available if you needed extra help. Attending a school with students from around the world allowed me to learn about several other cultures and find some lifelong friends! The Catholic faith is definitely alive and a core value for this school which was very important for me.

Having graduated, (and now as a working adult) I constantly find myself applying the values and work ethic I learned from attending Maur Hill - Mount Academy.

I would relatively compare this school to a failing sports franchise. Sure, the school might've been here for a long time and accompany its rich history, however it doesn't make up for the fact that in the present there is little no positivity coming from this school. From poor administrative decisions to the lack of basic infrastructure needed to support a high school, Maur Hill currently doesn't provide the education it advertises. It has consistently further the in-balance of spending from its academics and instead has chosen to fund their 3A baseball program, football stadium, and staff parking lot/entrance. It very much hurts to have to speak against an institution based on solid morals and enriching faith. Until they can get their act together and begin to support its board of directors, provide better opportunities to their students, and improve its financial relationship with their alumni, I can't in good faith recommend this school.
Proud to be an international alumni! Will always remember my time boarding there and the people I met, very positively. Couldn't recommend any place better for prospective students.
