I entered Mattituck High School as a Junior when my catholic high school closed unexpectedly. It was difficult coming to a new school where I didn’t know anyone.
This was an important year for the college process, and I was even more stressed.
I was so happy to be immediately welcomed by the teachers and staff. The school social worker, Mrs. Nydeggar, often invited me join clubs and activities, and it was so great to be encouraged and pulled in! When I struggled in math, my teachers were always available for extra help. Mattituck High School even offers an extra lab class in geometry and algebra to reinforce material learned in the core class. This helped me tremendously.
The college process has gone smoothly thanks to our guidance counselors. I have been accepted to my colleges of choice and I am grateful for their help in navigating.
Even though I came to Mattituck High School as an upperclassman, I quickly became part of the Mattituck family!

As a freshmen at Mattituck, we are not told where guidance is or how to communicate with them, and while we are certainly able to figure it out fairly easy, it’s not something they ensure we know and are comfortable with. Other than that, academics are great, electives are great, and the school is very athletically driven. The sports teams are very good but certain sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, and lacrosse are focused upon more than others. While there are clubs at mattituck, there are not many. There isn’t much participation in music and arts compared to sports. The school is highly focused on security though. Also, the dress code can be ridiculous and condemning, and many students disregard it anyways. The school is not majorly affected by drug use or alcohol, especially compared to nearby schools. Overall, the good aspects of Mattituck are amazing, but the bad aspects are pretty bad.
Mattituck High School has a high caliber of academics and is home to many passionate and inspirational teachers. Consistently a part of regional, state, and national championships, their many sports programs are competitive and frequently bring home titles. The main areas the school could improve on is diversity and its music and arts programs. Over the recent years, possibly due to lack of funding, the music and arts programs have not been as supported and financed as other areas of the school.
