Really not a great school. There is absolutely no diversity here, and the overall atmosphere is very judgemental. If you are a straight, cisgender, white student, you will probably like this school. If you aren't, then good luck.
The administration has little involvement in serious concerns. They honestly do not care about student issues beyond vaping. The food is also horrible; it is absolutely nauseating and has little nutritional value. In fact, Mattawan has headlines national news articles for having such poorly made food.
However, there are a few really great teachers who truly care about their students. If you try to find it, there are excellent support systems and good people involved with this school.
There is also an excellent choir and theater department. The choir director is fantastic and always puts on great shows. The students involved in choir show dedication and immense effort, resulting in a great program. The musicals are usually very well done as well.

Mattawan high school gave me the best experience I could have imagined. Mattawan became a home to me that I didn’t realize until I was graduating. Mattawan was a comfort to me all of the teachers supported me and helped me along the way. The support system at Mattawan is one of the best. While others felt stuck in a small town I felt like I was thriving. I loved Mattawan high school, and I gained the best experiences imaginable. Of course, there were some ups and downs along the way, but Mattawan high schools staff did their absolute best to make this school thrive. I will forever be grateful for the experiences that Mattawan high school offered me. Overall, Mattawan is one of the best schools around, and I can say that without a doubt. You can feel the love from all the staff and they all genuinely care for you and want what’s best for each and every student. Now everyone has a different experience with school and at Mattawan, but I will forever be grateful for my time there.
Mattawan provides a very story focus on academics. There are many instances of very good teachers in the AP Classes, and it is very good in this regard. However, there is a serious lack of a physics class. The administration has a hard time when asked to do something beyond the "average student." The student culture is a solid 5/10. Not real great, but it's not like there's a fight every day. As a student it's decent. The "real rating" I'd give it is 3.5 stars but I can only do 3 or 4 on here. Diversity is limited, but that is mostly related to where the school is and what students are in the area.
