I have attended Mathis High School since I was in the 9th grade. The administration are unhelpful and do not respect their students. They think too much about statistics and not about the individual student. The teachers are excellent but lack in resources to help student stay on the curve and at level with what is expected of their grade level. This is probably due to the district spending more money on athletics then academics. There is also a lack in extracurricular clubs to help students express themselves.

Mathis is very stick on rules that shouldn’t really be rules. I have seen people in trouble for hair length, hair color, jackets, backpacks, almost anything small. I feel like they should worry about education and making sure everyone has classes to where they are able to learn and not be over crowded. A lot of classes are either full and students sit on the floor or they have no body in the classes and take all year to switch the schedules.
The class of 2020 in Mathis High School has witnessed our school turn from average to below that. As freshmen, we became accustomed to your average high school, rightfully equipped with a library, dual credit courses, and a diverse set of staff. However, things changed as we rose up.
Mathis High school has gone from a B+ on Niche to a C-. Mathis High School is a school that is more concerned with their student's haircuts and attendance rather than their probability to succeed in life. The students who rank in the top ten are treated with a lighter hand.
The building has been around since my parents were my age. Recently, the construction of a new high school was funded, only for the school that we learn in to be halfway demolished. We take some classes in the middle school building next door.
Mathis High School hasn't always been a below average school. But as of April 2nd, 2020, I don't think it even deserves a passing grade.
