The teachers really encouraged you to learn and to pass their classes. They acknowledge hard work and pushed you to ask and answer any questions. Contributions of ideas were always welcomed. The teachers I've had have always been very focused on teaching their students to their best potential. They also encouraged you to do extracurricular activities to make you look better upon applying for colleges. There were many sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities to choose from. The atmosphere is very diverse and you learn a lot about the different cultures through Ethnic Fest. I'm very glad I attended Mather High School and met a lot of great people!

After four years in this school I have grown to like it. Even though the principle changed it was still some improvement to it. Not as many violence as prior to the years I attended. The security is pretty well maintained. Also the teachers are good, open minded to everyone. Always considers us as individuals and not just a class they have everyday. The only thing I would complain about is that the kitchen isn’t so clean all the time. And students aren’t informed much about colleges until the end of their junior year. I would have liked it more if I was informed more sooner during my studies and adviced by our counselor which we don’t see much from. And sadly because money is a bit short we don’t have a nurse the whole week.
I love how diverse my high school is. I met students from over fifty countries! Most of my teachers were well qualified, intelligent, and inspiring. Just don't trust anyone with your secrets. The premise is not dangerous in terms of violence; I felt safe every day I was there. I learned a lot! My best advice is take as many Advanced Placement classes as you can. I took 9! Join as many clubs! Join Louder Than A Bomb, Academic Decathlon, and ethnic club! It's worth taking the ACT Prep Classes. Get good grades. I did all of this, and successfully got into one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mather is not a selective enrollment school, it is not rich, there are seldom any White students there like in Lane or Northside, and the neighborhood is not the best, but that does not mean it is a bad school. Mather High School is a pretty good school. Appreciate the diversity and awesome teachers!
